<blockquote><p>Roman (serif) faces do join, align and shape words better than sans serifs. Walking serifs hint at a baseline of sorts, and align letters and words to one another. If you look closely at the serifs of any roman face, you&#8217;ll notice that their horizontal reach suggests a juncture between the letters within a word.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>The thick and thin strokes of serif faces bring more texture and variety to the text. (Bivins 1991).</p></blockquote>
